Microsoft Flight Simulator PSVR2 April Update
Microsoft Flight Simulator PSVR2 Arrives in April

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 adds PSVR2 support to PS5 with the free Sim 5 update in April.

The title has offered PC VR support since late 2024. Asobo Studio now confirms that PSVR2 functionality will arrive for PS5 via Sim 5 in April as a free update. No exact date is given.

Details shared by Microsoft Flight Simulator head Jorg Neumann in a PlayStation Blog post outlined the work required to adapt cockpit systems for virtual reality. The simulation includes a wide range of instruments, switches and controls, each of which was redesigned to operate with the PS VR2 Sense controllers in a manner suited to the platform.

The update also required technical modifications to maintain smooth performance in a demanding environment. This included foveated rendering, a technique where the image is rendered in great detail where the player’s eyes are focused and in lower detail elsewhere. It also included flexible, scale-aware rasterisation, which adapts how images are drawn to fit different display sizes. Both affect how visuals are created and displayed in the headset.

The PSVR 2 mode is expected to support all 125 aircraft in the simulation. To help maintain smooth performance, the team added a frame duplication process. This means the system repeats each visual frame twice, updating the camera position between repetitions to make the animation appear smoother, thereby increasing the perceived frame rate for the user.

A preview version of the update was demonstrated during FSWeekend 2026 in Lelystad, Netherlands. Attendees could test a beta build of the PSVR 2 mode at the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 exhibition area.

Simulation Daily’s coverage of the demonstration included a report from Giuseppe Nelva, who tested the experience with a standard DualSense controller. The preview was also accompanied by a 10-minute video showing the functionality in use.
